Gas prices in Greater Hartford have increased 15 cents in the past month.
The average price per gallon of regular unleaded at Greater Hartford gas stations reached $3.758 on Wednesday, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. A month ago, prices were $3.604 per gallon.
The price per barrel of oil – the major indicator of gasoline costs – has increased in the past month as positive reports on the economy increased demand for oil. On Wednesday, the price of a barrel of oil reached $98.59, according to the Associated Press.
Gas prices in Greater Hartford also are up 44 cents from a year ago when prices were dropping because of less demand following the holiday season.
Connecticut has higher gas prices than surrounding states because its taxes on fuel are higher and the state requires a cleaner mix of gasoline, which is more expensive.
