Hartford’s fire department on Wednesday will collect a $951,311 federal grant to equip its force with the latest self-contained breathing gear and rescue equipment, authorities say.
Congressman John B. Larson and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal are slated to join Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and Fire Chief Carlos Huertas at 10 a.m. at the downtown firehouse at 275 Pearl St. to formally receive the Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Hartford’s grant was among those awarded on a competitive basis nationally to fire departments and medical service organizations, officials said.
