Hartford Federal Credit Union has received federal approval to expand its membership eligibility into much of Litchfield County, significantly widening its potential customer base across northwestern Connecticut.
The National Credit Union Administration recently approved the Hartford-based nonprofit cooperative’s request to broaden its field of membership to include residents of the Capitol, Lower Connecticut River Valley and Northwest Hills planning regions. The expanded charter also covers the towns of Bethlehem, Bristol, Plymouth, Thomaston, Union, Watertown and Woodbury.
The move extends eligibility across large portions of Hartford, Tolland, Middlesex and Litchfield counties.
Hartford Federal Credit Union has $153.4 million in assets and more than 16,200 members, according to NCUA data.
The expansion comes as the credit union undergoes a leadership transition. Longtime CEO Ed Danek is scheduled to retire next month and will be succeeded by Beth Mazza, the organization’s executive vice president.
“We’re excited to welcome new members from communities that already have strong ties to our branches,” Mazza said.
Founded in 1961, Hartford Federal Credit Union operates offices in Hartford, South Windsor, Stafford Springs and West Simsbury.
