Merchandise exports from Hartford increased nearly 4 percent to a record $9.7 billion in 2012, according to the federal International Trade Administration.
The metropolitan area ranked 33rd in the country. Hartford’s exports were mainly made up of transportation equipment, which accounted for $6.3 billion, and machinery, which totaled $1.1 billion.
Top destinations for Hartford merchandise included Germany, Canada, France and the United Arab Emirates.
Of the top 50 metropolitan areas, 31 experienced export growth from 2011 to 2012, and 29 hit record levels.
