Hartford environmental school honored nationally

The Mary M. Hooker Environmental Sciences Magnet School in Hartford was honored by the U.S. Green Building Council for its commitment to sustainability and its high energy efficient design.

The 75,000 sq. ft. school was completely renovated along with an additional 31,000 sq. ft. of new academic areas to be as energy efficient as possible, using smart lighting and various other energy controls.

The building is the first in Hartford to be designed to the platinum standard for the U.S. Green Building’s Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED.

Hartford-based BL Companies – the leader designer on the Hooker project – accepted the green building council’s awards including the Connecticut Chapter’s Alexion Pharmaceutical’s Award of Excellence and the Commercial and Institutional Award of Honor.
