Hartford’s mask mandate is no longer in effect, city officials announced.
The city’s mask mandate expired at midnight Jan. 31, and Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said the rule would not be extended. Bronin had previously reinstated the city’s mandate at the beginning of the year as positive COVID-19 cases began to rise again, but there’s been a steady decline in those numbers in recent weeks, he said.
“I want to stress that venues and businesses have every right to require patrons to wear masks, and I strongly encourage residents to continue wearing masks when you’re indoors around strangers,” Bronin said, while encouraging residents to get vaccinated and booster shots.
Earlier in the week, Gov. Ned Lamont gave an update about the state’s COVID-19 numbers. There are 1,051 people hospitalized with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state, with 325 of them in Hartford county.
