Hartford development agency transfers land for stadium

The Hartford Redevelopment Agency voted Wednesday to approve the transfer of city-owned land to the developer of the proposed Downtown North baseball stadium and surrounding development, according to NBC Connecticut.

The Main Street parcel that was transferred formerly housed the H.B. Davis Building, which was demolished in 2010. DoNo Hartford LLC would build housing, retail space and a supermarket on the parcel, if it’s approved by the city council.

“This section of Hartford has been vacant and blighted for decades,” HRA Vice Chairman David J. Jorgensen said in a statement released by Mayor Pedro E. Segarra’s office after the meeting.

“It is the purview of the HRA to combat blight, identify opportunities to improve our City and protect its long-term development goals.”

The vote came one day after the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission voted against the stadium project — a vote that is not binding on the city council.
