Hartford Club elects new president

The Hartford Club has shuffled its leadership team after electing a new president, first vice president and several new board members.

The private business club, based downtown at 46 Prospect St., on Monday said it elected Eric George as president in place of Scott Trenholm, who held the post for the last two years. Trenholm will now serve as past president.

George currently serves as president of the Insurance Association of Connecticut, an insurance trade group and lobbying organization based in Hartford.

He is also a member on the board of directors for the Aurora Foundation and serves as a commissioner on the Criminal Justice Commission, which is responsible for appointing all state prosecutors employed in the Division of Criminal Justice.

A resident of Glastonbury, George also previously served on the town’s board of education.

George said he’s honored to lead the club through what he expects to be a “prosperous new era” for the institution.

“We are asking people to discover The Hartford Club all over again, and discover what it can do for them,” he said.

In addition to George’s appointment, the club also tapped Chris VandeHoef, CEO of Hartford-based government relations firm Penn Lincoln Strategies LLC, as first vice president.

The club also elected three new members to its board of governors as well as re-electing several others to new terms.

The Hartford Club was established in 1873 offering upscale dining, event space, member benefits and concierge-style services.

It’s gone through a series of financial problems over the years as it’s dealt with declining membership. Club leaders have also made a series of investments recently to spruce up the facility.
