Hartford clerk’s death ruled a suicide

Connecticut’s medical examiner says the death of Hartford City Clerk Daniel M. Carey is a suicide.

Carey was found dead of asphyxiation on Friday morning after his staff called police because Carey did not return from lunch on Thursday and didn’t show up for work Friday morning.

Reader response:

“The story of my friend Dannys life is a great story worth telling. You have reported the head line eye catching part and left out the rest of his story. His end apears to be of great intrest for your news letter. Please look into the rest of his story and the good he has done for so many people. I would like to see the results of this letter in tomorrows issue, He was a good man and many people will miss him.” — Joseph G. Moon, Moon TranStars LLC

“Dan Carey was a great man and yes, he will be missed.” — Laura Mahon, Restaurant Redux

“You also failed to mention that Dan was fighting pancreatic cancer and had no family to help him through this.” — Twain, Hartford Downtown Council
