After 32 years of being known as the Hartford Civic Center, the main sports arena in Connecticut’s capital city is getting a makeover.
It will be known as the XL Center under a six-year deal to sell the naming rights to XL Insurance.
Northland AEG, which manages the Civic Center, says a seven figure agreement includes the addition of the XL name to the basketball court, hockey rink, stationery, tickets and signs inside and outside of the arena.
Officials say the deal to sell the Civic Center’s naming rights provides Northland AEG money for upgrades at the center and XL a chance to increase public awareness of its brand.
XL Insurance is part of the publicly owned XL Capital Ltd., which is based in Bermuda.
