Hartford City Treasurer Adam Cloud says he’s considering a run for state treasurer, after current State Treasurer Shawn Wooden announced Thursday he will not seek reelection this fall.
In an email to Hartford Business Journal, Cloud said “I can confirm that I am thinking about it.”
Wooden, a Democrat and former Day Pitney lawyer, announced Thursday that he’s stepping back from public office in order to spend more time with his family, including his two sons. He did not rule out getting back into politics in the future.
Hearst Connecticut reported Thursday at least two other Democratic candidates have expressed interest in the seat, including former Greenwich investment manager Dita Bhargava, and Arunan Arulampalam, who last year became CEO of the Hartford Land Bank.
Hearst also reported that Greenwich Republican state Rep. Harry Arora was the only declared candidate for state treasurer as of Thursday.
Cloud is Hartford’s first Black city treasurer who was first elected in 2011.
