Ahead Of The Curve
In business these days, unless you are on the Web, or you haven’t LinkedIn; if you don’t FaceBook or YouTube; if you’ve never blogged, Twittered or been Tweeted, then you’re behind the curve in the latest ways to communicate and generate new business.
The good news for most of us (and the world’s worst kept secret) is that unless you’re among the early adapter 20-somethings just beginning their careers who seem to come by this technology naturally, there’s still time. Most of us are still just getting the hang of it.
Inside, our top Strateg-e Award winners share their experiences in using what has become multifaceted Web-based technology to help run and grow their businesses. It’s a far cry from the days of the single-lane information superhighway many of us were excited about a mere 10 years ago when launching a static, noninteractive Web page was considered cutting edge.
Today, these and other businesses are using the Web’s versatility to advertise, check out job applicants, promote products and services, conduct transactions, communicate with employees and interact with customers near and far.
If you’re not doing the same, one day you will. Those who fail to adopt these new, sometimes intimidating technologies will give way to those who do. Few of us today conduct business the same way we did a decade ago, and the distinction brought about by advancing e-technologies in the decade ahead will be even greater.
The Hartford Business Journal has adapted, too. A glance at our Web site, www.hartfordbusiness.com, reveals e-advertising, blogs, video interviews, subscription payment capability and more.
And to our winners who have incorporated e-technology in the way they conduct their business, congratulations. They, and others like them, are the early pioneers of e-technology who are demonstrating for the rest of us how business is changing and the direction it is increasingly taking us in the years ahead.

On April 24, 2009, The Hartford Business Journal hosted an eTechnology Summit assembling the region’s thought leaders on website design, search, e-newsletters, e-advertising, blogs, social networks, business automation and integration for a series of interactive and engaging workshops.
The event also recognized companies who are using this technology in the most effective way to serve customers and produce new revenue with the “Strateg-e Awards.”
