The Hartford Athletic pro soccer club has signed Bloomfield health insurer Cigna as its latest corporate sponsor.
The Athletic-Cigna partnership will focus on community-focused programs around health improvement initiatives, social media messaging and recognition of a “Cigna Man of the Match” at each of its 17 home games, the team said.
Cigna adds to the soccer team’s growing network of corporate sponsors including Trinity Health of New England and Stanley Black & Decker.
The team, currently winless after its first seven games, will play the first two months of its inaugural season in the expanded United Soccer League (USL) on the road before its home opener on May 4 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.
Team officials have said it will start play in mid-June at its regular home at Hartford’s historic Dillon Stadium, which is not yet open due to construction delays.
