Hartford area home sales and prices continued to gain speed for the fourth straight month in May, authorities say.
Sales of single-family houses last month climbed 28.4 percent to 801 units from 624 the same month last year, the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors reports.
Pending sales – units whose owners have a buyer’s contract in hand but have yet to close – slowed, however, in May yet were still above year-ago levels, the association said. Pending sales rose 12.2 percent to 991 units from 883 in May 2011.
Median house prices rose 4.6 percent in May, to $230,000 from $220,000 in May 2011.
Area condominium sales grew 9 percent in May to 181 units from 166 units a year ago.
The median condo price last month dropped 20 percent to $140,000 from $174,500.
