Hartford area housing shows April gains

Hartford area home sales rose 22 percent in April, the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors says.

Units sold rose to 688 last month from 563 the same month last year, the Realtors said Tuesday.

The Realtors report is on the heels of a separate report earlier Tuesday from The Warren Group that Connecticut homebuyers rushing to take advantage of expired tax credits pushed sales and median prices up in March.

According to the Realtors, the area’s sales pipeline also continued to show strong growth last month, with 1,287 houses under contract, up from 1,011 a year ago.

Area condominium sales rose in April to 207 units from 152, a 36 percent increase. The median sale price was flat at $155,900 vs $155,000 a year ago.
