Hartford area dwelling sales rebounded in Jan.

Area home sales rocketed in January from a year earlier, while prices improved modestly, new Realtor data shows.

There were 552 single-family dwellings sold in January, up 39 percent from 397 units the same month last year, according to the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors.

The pipeline of houses under contract but not yet closed also grew last month by more than a third, to 745 units vs. 542, the group said.

Median price of house sold rose 2.6 percent to $200,000 vs. $195,000 in January 2012.

Condo sales rose 7.3 percent from a year earlier, while their median prices rose 17.5 percent to $155,050.
