Hardin inaugurated as Quinnipiac’s 10th president

Marie C. Hardin was formally inaugurated Thursday as the 10th president of Quinnipiac University, marking a new era for the institution as it approaches its centennial in 2029.

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members — as well as Hardin’s dog, Tator — gathered at the M&T Bank Arena on the school’s campus in Hamden to celebrate the occasion. The event featured remarks from university leaders and alumni on Quinnipiac’s past and its role in higher education in the future.

Provost Debra Liebowitz opened the event, calling Hardin’s inauguration “a new chapter for our ambitious community.” Board of Trustees Chair Chuck Saia introduced Hardin, praising her energy and engagement since taking office earlier this year.

In her inaugural address, Hardin underscored the university’s mission to expand learning opportunities.

“The purpose for this great university is clear: transforming the lives of every learner who joins this community,” Hardin said. “But the ambition is greater — to be the companion of choice for a lifetime, relevant for learners at every life stage.”

Former Quinnipiac presidents Judy Olian and John Lahey participated in the traditional presentation of the chain of office and the university’s founding documents.

Keynote speaker Alexander Clark, CEO of Technolutions Inc. and a Quinnipiac trustee, highlighted the university’s continued climb in The Wall Street Journal’s rankings — it now ranks 51st.

Based in Hamden, Quinnipiac University enrolls 9,700 students in more than 100 degree programs.
