Hamilton team lauded for space work

Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks has been honored for leading the team supporting successful spacewalks to assemble the orbiting space station and repair the Hubble telescope.

Hamilton’s One Extra-Curricular Vehicle Activity (EVA) team received the prestigious Stellar Award in the team category at the 2010 Rotary National Award for Space Achievement annual banquet on Tuesday in Houston.

The One EVA team also includes: ILC Dover, United Space Alliance, Oceaneering International Inc. and the Boeing Co.

The team was recognized for its outstanding track record of successful spacewalks, which allowed NASA to complete International Space Station assembly, repair the Hubble Space Telescope and successfully operate the Space Shuttle. The team also allowed NASA to extend spacewalk capability on space station beyond shuttle retirement.

Stellar Awards recognize individual and team achievements from the government, military and industry. Winners are  chosen for accomplishments holding the greatest promise for furthering future space activities.

David Romero, Hamilton’s One EVA program manager, said the award is a “thrilling” achievement that recognizes “the amazing people on the One EVA team.”
