The space systems unit of Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks has inked a contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for spacesuit support on the shuttle and the International Space Station valued at up to $728.9 million, The Houston Business Journal reports.
Hamilton Sundstrand Space Systems International’s Extravehicular Space Operations contract includes engineering management for hardware systems used in spacewalks, supporting enhancements, ensuring flight and spacewalk readiness, providing safety and mission assurance, meeting flight milestones and achieving mission goals.
Agreement terms include a base contract of $315.5 million for work done through Sept. 30, 2015, and a one-year option of $8.6 million specifically for space shuttle mission support that begins immediately.
After leaving Houston-area space industry contractors in limbo for nearly a year, the House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a $58-billion compromise NASA budget that matches the already-approved Senate blueprint.
Hamilton Sundstrand is a division of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.
