Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks won an estimated $100 million contract to supply electric power systems for Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer’s KC-390 cargo-tanker for the Brazilian Air Force.
The KC-390 is a twin engine, medium-lift military transport, which Embraer Defense and Security is developing to enter service in 2016.
It will transport up to 23 tons of cargo, including wheeled armored vehicles, support equipment and military personnel. The cargo aircraft is also designed for rapid configuration as a tanker.
Embraer also builds passenger aircraft.
Hamilton Sundstrand is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.
