Proton Energy Systems in Wallingford landed a subcontract from Hamilton Sundstrand Corp. in Windsor Locks to supply key components used in equipment that produces breathable air aboard Navy submarines.
Proton will use its expertise with materials used to extract hydrogen from water to deliver electrolysis cell stacks that are the heart of the compact oxygen machines Hamilton is supplying under its contract with the Navy.
Contract terms were not disclosed.
Proton’s primary market is producing electrochemical membranes for extracting pure hydrogen for fuel cells and other industrial applications.
Proton said it will deliver its first cell stack to Hamilton in March.
Â
Hamilton’s oxygen makers will be installed aboard the Navy’s Virginia-class fast attack boats.
