Hamden lab equipment firm purchased by New Jersey robotics company

Tomtec Inc., an automated liquid handling instruments company based in Hamden, has been acquired by a New Jersey robotics company, the company announced.

Hudson, an international global laboratory automation services provider based in New Jersey, announced the purchase of Tomtec Inc. this week for an undisclosed sum. Tomtec makes automated liquid handling instruments primarily used for sample preparation in mass spectrometry.

Hudson is a subsidiary of Argosy Healthcare Partners and was formed in 2022 after the combination of Hudson Robotics and Art Robbins Instruments. Hudson’s CEO Andrew Witschi said the acquisition expands the company’s liquid handling portfolio. Now, Tomtec’s technology can be integrated into Hudson’s automated robot offerings.

Tomtec Inc. was founded in Hamden in 1967. Sal Iacono, Tomtec’s CEO, is also now a member of Hudson’s board.
