Darien’s Genesee & Wyoming, the owner of Hartford’s Connecticut Southern Railroad and 110 others, shipped 9,700 more carloads of freight in October than it did a year ago, it reported.
That represented a 6 percent increase. When accounting for the company’s 2012 acquisition of RailAmerica Inc. — a purchase that brought CSR under its ownership — freight traffic was up 104 percent, G&W said.
