Group sues to repeal CT’s new firearms law

A group of gun owners and retailers says Connecticut’s new firearms law is unconstitutional and they are suing for its repeal, authorities say.

The Connecticut Citizens Defense League declared Wednesday it filed suit in federal court to overturn the state measure adopted by state lawmakers and signed by the governor in the wake of the Newtown gun slayings last December.

The new law, among other things, bans sale and possession of high-volume gun magazines like the ones the assailant used on schoolhouse victims in Newtown’s Sandy Hook section.

The group’s president, Scott Wilson, claims it has about 7,600 members, most of whom joined in recent months. Wilson credited the National Rifle Association, the nation’s biggest gun lobby, with assisting in filing the lawsuit.
