Griswold florist’s $18K energy grant

Jewett City Greenhouses & Florist in Griswold won an $18,000 federal grant to make its growing houses more energy efficient, authorities say.

The business at 17 Ashland St. in Griswold’s Jewett City section got the competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which are used to fund energy independence and conservation projects, Congressman Joe Courtney’s office said.

Jewett City Greenhouses plans to replace the outer skin of its greenhouses to curb its electricity needs.
