Griebel to announce GOP gubernatorial run

R. Nelson “Oz” Griebel, an ex-banker who is president and chief executive officer of the MetroHartford Alliance since 2001, is expected to officially announce his GOP run for governor Thursday on the steps of the state Capitol.

Prior to leading the Alliance, Griebel worked at BankBoston Corp. for 22 years, and served as CEO of its Connecticut franchise from 1993 to 1999.

Griebel graduated from Dartmouth College in 1971 and earned a law degree from Suffolk University in 1977. His corporate board experience includes service with MacDermid Inc., Tallan Inc., and World Business Capital.

In addition, he has served on a number of organizations, including the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, Bradley International Airport, the Connecticut Transportation Strategy Board, Riverfront Recapture.

He also sits on the boards of Northwest Catholic High School, Junior Achievement of Central Connecticut, the Annual Fund of the United Way of the Central Naugatuck Valley, the Mark Twain House, the University of Hartford, the Wadsworth Athenaeum, the Waterbury Foundation, and Yale-New Haven Hospital. 

Griebel lives in Simsbury with his wife Kirsten. They have three grown children: Stephanie, Paul and Chris.
