Griebel Enters Ring

R. Nelson “Oz” Griebel, an ex-banker who has been the president and chief executive officer of the MetroHartford Alliance since 2001, officially announced his GOP run for governor last week on the steps of the state Capitol.

Greeted by more than 60 supporters chanting his name, Griebel said if elected he would become the state’s chief economic development officer.

“As governor, I will restore confidence for the business community and ensure our state aggressively competes for jobs, capital and talent,” he said.

Prior to leading the Alliance, Griebel worked at BankBoston Corp. and served as CEO of its Connecticut franchise from 1993 to 1999.
