Greenwich insurer W.R. Berkley Corp. lifted second-quarter profits on strong new property-casualty and renewal premiums.
For three months ended June 30, Berkley netted $109 million, or 76 cents a share, up from $82 million, or 56 cents a share, netted the same period last year.
Also during the quarter the insurer spent $48.3 million, or an average $37.56 a share, buying back 1.3 million of its common shares on the open market.
