Greater Hartford Arts Council

Mission: The Greater Hartford Arts Council is a leader and catalyst for the promotion, fundraising and coordination of arts and heritage programs that help celebrate our diverse cultures, enliven the spirit, and enrich the economy of Connecticut’s Capital Region.

Background: In 1971, Hartford leaders incorporated the Greater Hartford Arts Council to conduct a united fund drive on behalf of five major arts institutions. Almost four decades later, the Arts Council’s United Arts campaign has grown to serve more than 150 arts, heritage, cultural and community groups annually. Its scope of service goes beyond dollars raised and grants made, supporting cultural community through umbrella marketing, advocacy, strategic planning, and technical assistance.

The Greater Hartford Arts Council is the largest, independent arts council in New England, runs the eighth largest United Arts’ fund in the country and is a national leader in diversified services and cultural promotions.

The Greater Hartford Arts Council has raised and invested more than $58 million for the arts for more than 38 years, helping to rank Greater Hartford in the top 6 percent of metropolitan areas in North America for its arts and culture.
