Greater Hartford Arts Council starts search for next CEO

The Greater Hartford Arts Council today launched its formal search for its next CEO.

The organization, which supports and promotes the arts in the Greater Hartford area, formed a search committee staffed by members of the art council’s board of directors. The organization hasn’t had a permanent CEO since Cathy Malloy, the wife of former Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, left the position in 2020 after nine years on the job.

“For more than 50 years, the Greater Hartford Arts Council has been an important community partner to residents, arts leaders, artists and corporate and foundation leaders in our mutual efforts to promote a vibrant future for our region,” said search committee member and board president Paul Guzzardi. “We are committed to a fully inclusive, regionally focused search to find and engage with a variety of candidates who are as diverse as the communities we serve.”

The council is conducting the job search in collaboration with TSNE, which provides training and consulting for nonprofits and community groups. A job description has been posted on TSNE’s website.

The position will remain open for as long as it takes to identify the right candidate, the organization said, but a new leader is expected to be named by early 2022.

Kate McOmber, who has served as interim CEO since September 2020, will continue in that role until a permanent CEO is named. McOmber will remain with the organization as a vice president following the CEO appointment, officials said.
