Gov. Rell urges DCF to change its ways

In response to an audit of the Department of Children and Families, Gov. M. Jodi Rell is directing DCF and all other state agencies to curb excessive spending where they can.

The audit found that DCF was paying for 258 cell phones not being used and that 50 percent of cell phone use occurred when employees weren’t at work. It also found that more than $18,000 could have been saved if DCF employees purchased gas of an appropriate grade at state-owned gas stations.

The governor is now directing all state agencies to cancel any cell phones not being used and to more closely monitor cell phone use among employees. She is also asking these agencies to purchase gas of the appropriate grade at state-owned stations.

“Implemented across all of state government, these are common sense measures that will save real money,” Gov. Rell said in a letter to state agency commissioners and executive directors.
