A three-year-old craft coffee company will be launching its first brick-and-mortar location in Wallingford.
Yellow King Brews recently signed a three-year lease for a 2,995-square-foot space at 920 South Colony Rd.
Rob Vitale and Shama Khan are co-owners of the Bridgeport-based business. They plan to open a gourmet coffee and craft beer tap room in the Wallingford space.
“We have been in the coffee business for three years as a vendor,” Vitale said. “We had hoped to make this move (to brick-and-mortar) last year, but it was delayed due to COVID.”
Renovations are currently ongoing, but Vitale said he anticipates the Wallingford location to be open by December or January.
“Cold brew coffee is our specialty, and we will also have a coffee shop and a craft beer tap room,” Vitale said. “It will be a place for people to hang out.”

They plan to have musical guests, trivia, movie nights and televised live sporting events.
There will be food available, but no set menu, according to Vitale. The owners envision food offerings such as meat and cheese charcuterie boards, fancy breads, baked goods, nachos and wings.
“We want a lively atmosphere,” Vitale said.
The owners named their venture because they are both fans of “The King in Yellow,” a book of short stories by writer Robert W. Chambers.
Since launching the craft coffee company in 2018, Yellow King Brews has been selling at farmers markets and other local events. In addition to freshly brewed coffee, it also sells teas and fresh roasted coffee beans.
The brick-and-mortar location will allow it to expand to offer craft beers from Connecticut.
The Proto Group represented both the tenant and the landlord, DeMartino Colony Realty LLC, in the lease.
