Google extends Windows XP support for Chrome until April 2016

Google Chrome fans using Windows XP, rejoice! The company is providing support for its browser until next April.

The new end date is an extension from what Google had previously promised. Earlier this year, the company said it would extend support for Chrome on Windows XP through December. Now, Google has announced a new deadline, and will also stop supporting Chrome on Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8.

“Starting April 2016, Chrome will continue to function on these platforms, but will no longer receive updates and security fixes,” wrote Google’s Marc Pawliger in a company blog post.

Google suggested Tuesday that users upgrade their operating systems so that they can receive Chrome updates, especially since older platforms are “missing critical security updates and have a greater potential to be infected by viruses and malware,” Pawlinger wrote.
