Goodwin launches manufacturing initiative

Goodwin College in East Hartford on Friday morning announced a new initiative to provide training and credentialing for manufacturing employees.

The initiative – announced by Gov. Dannel Malloy, Congressman John Larson (D-CT), and Goodwin President Mark Scheinberg – seeks to help manufacturing workers advance in their field with programs such as the certified production technician pilot class to obtain the manufacturing skills standards certification.

The program is designed to increase the number of skilled manufacturing workers in the state, as the high-tech industry has more than 20,000 openings for experienced people. That number is expected to rise as a significant portion of the workforce is set to retire within 10 years.

The Goodwin program is a hybrid of classroom courses and interactive virtual simulation of real-world manufacturing activities.
