East Hartford’s Goodwin College is looking to train the next generation of insurance agents.
The private college last week launched a Property and Casualty Insurance Institute in an effort to prepare students for in-demand jobs within the insurance industry.
The pre-apprenticeship initiative, school officials say, is an 18-credit program that can be completed in just over 22 weeks. Curriculum will be focused on preparing students for the state property and casualty insurance licensing exam.
According to organizers, students will immediately be matched with 30-plus insurance agencies in Greater Hartford partnering with Goodwin College on the new initiative. The partnerships could lead to full-time employment opportunities.
“Goodwin College’s new pre-apprenticeship program will provide students with a new career path into insurance while giving them hands-on experience in the industry,” Insurance Commissioner Andrew Mais said. “We’re excited to welcome the next generation of talent into the insurance industry.”
Goodwin and participating insurance agencies, including Allstate, Horton Insurance, MBI Insurance and Keating Agency Insurance, inked the new pre-apprenticeship program at the college last week during an event attended by faculty, students, regional insurance leaders and other state officials.
