Golf courses throughout Connecticut enjoyed strong revenues in June and July, thanks to good weather leading to more days being open, according to the Connecticut Section of the PGA.
In June, courses reported 3,702 monthly rounds by patrons, an increase of 6.6 percent over June 2013. That beat out the national average of a 1.3 percent decrease.
July’s numbers in Connecticut were even better with 3,804 rounds, a 9.1 percent increase over July 2013. That beat out the national average of a 1.5 percent increase.
PGA pros from the Stanley Golf Course in New Britain and from the Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton both reported their June’s were the best in history in terms of both rounds and revenue, said Tom Hantke, executive director of the Connecticut Section PGA.
Helping the increase in rounds was all Connecticut golf courses reported an average of 28.2 open days in June and an average of 30 open days in July, a good sign that weather was not an impediment to golfers hitting the links.
Statistics for the last month of the summer, August, are expected Sept. 25.
