The Go Red For Women movement’s Circle of Red will present author and lecturer Dorothy Martin-Neville in a program entitled “The Heart of a Woman: Finding Your Essence” on Oct. 13 at Maneely’s in South Windsor.
Car pools, meetings, work, family commitments, household responsibilities, social events and community activities fill the ‘to do’ lists of women throughout the Greater Hartford region. Life keeps getting busier and because women are often the busiest members of the family, they often put their own heart and health needs on the back burner. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement encourages every woman to take some time out for herself and feel good about doing it.
And that includes having a ‘girls night out,’ like the one planned Oct. 13.
Organizers say no topic is off limits. Are you living with a full heartˆ or just surviving? Can your personality type affect your health? Are your relationships healthy and enhancing your life? Do you know what your true essence is?
Explore the answers to these questions and so much more at ‘The Heart of a Woman: Finding Your Essence.’ Dr. Martin-Neville, founder and president of the Bloomfield-based Institute of Healing Arts and Sciences, will guide a journey to open up a life of passion, vibrancy and aliveness.
This special “girls’ night out” is presented by the local members of the Go Red For Women movement’s Circle of Red, an elite group of women from the Greater Hartford region who are taking a stand against women’s cardiovascular disease locally by lending their voice to the cause and personally investing their influence and resources in the work of Go Red For Women.
This passionate group of women is committed to educating other women about the prevention of cardiovascular disease in a fun, heart-healthy way. Not only will this special event feature a powerful and informative discussion, but “The Heart of Woman” will also feature a reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres, networking opportunities, special giveaways and so much more.
The event, billed as a ‘girls night out,’ will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13th at Maneeley’s, 65 Rye St. in South Windsor. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling 203-294-3551 or e-mailing Dana.Alan@heart.org.
Hartford Library Wins Grant
The Hartford Public Library has been awarded a $100,000 grant to expand its capacity to prepare lawful permanent residents for citizenship and the naturalization process. The library was among 75 organizations in 27 states and the District of Columbia to secure this funding from the federal Citizenship and Integration Services.
Out of about 1,000 applications nationwide, Hartford Public Library was also the only public library in the nation and the only organization in Connecticut to receive a grant. This competitive grant program is funded through the Department of Homeland Security.
“Preparing new Americans for life in our great country is important work and the library stands ready to expand our capacity to meet an ever-increasing need here in Hartford,” said Matt Poland, the lbrary’s chief executive officer.
The American Place at Hartford Public Library, which administers citizenship programming, was named a model for this work in the 2008 report from the President’s Taskforce on New Americans.
