Glastonbury’s Max Amore to close

Max Restaurant Group said Tuesday it will close Max Amore Ristorante in Glastonbury, one of its two restaurants Somerset Square in Glastonbury, on June 30.

The restaurant owners are planning a new restaurant at a separate location in Glastonbury and are working with a local developer to build the chain’s first “from the ground up” free-standing location in Glastonbury. Details are to be announced soon, the group said in a statement.

Like Cavey’s restaurant in Manchester, which is set to close at the end of this week, Max Amore featured a northern Italian menu.

Max Restaurant Group founder Richard Rosenthal said Max Amore had been relatively unchanged since 1995 and needed major renovations. He said he had been negotiating with the landlord, but concluded he could not commit to a long-term lease.

“The moment seemed right to end our hugely successful run of nearly 25 years at this location and to think about a new venture in Glastonbury,” added Rosenthal “The new restaurant will build on the success of Max Amore but take a fresh approach that reflects changing tastes and an evolving market.”

Rosenthal said that all Max Amore employees will be offered jobs at either the new location or one of the nine other Max Restaurant Group locations in the area.

Max Gift Cards will be accepted at all Max Restaurants and points accrued on Max Vantage Loyalty Card are redeemable at all Max Restaurants.

Founded in 1986, Max Restaurant Group operates 11 restaurants including Max A Mia Ristorante in Avon; Trumbull Kitchen in Hartford; Max’s Oyster Bar, Savoy Pizzeria, and Max Burger in West Hartford; Max’s Tavern in Springfield; Max Burger in Longmeadow; and The Cooper Craft Kitchen & Bar in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
