Glastonbury med-tech maker forges Canadian partnership

Xhale Assurance, a Glastonbury manufacturer of a pulse oximetry sensor, will work with a Vancouver company to develop a medical sensor to connect to mobile phones and devices, the two announced.

Xhale will work with LionsGate Technologies of British Columbia, which has developed a mobile phone oximeter that plugs into a cell phone audio jack, to work up a new sensor with multiple vital sign parameters.

Xhale introduced its Alar One-Sense sensor in May after getting marketing clearance from the  U.S. Food & Drug Administration the month prior. Attached to the side of a patient’s nose, it detects blood-oxygen saturation and heart rate. The company is working on adding respiration rate.

Correction: The original version of this article incorrectly stated that the Alar sensor did not have FDA approval.
