Glastonbury energy technology firm Sustainable Innovations was recognized by the Connecticut-Israel Collaboration Award for its work with Israel Chemicals Limited.
The two companies were presented their award for the joint development of a Hydrogen-Halogen Reversible Fuel Cell for grid scale energy storage by the MetroHartford Alliance and Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
The fuel cell uses solar or wind renewable energy to increase stability to the electricity grid without the carbon emissions of coal or gas.
The Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation is providing support to both Sustainable Innovations and ICL-IP for the development of the technology.
Sustainable Innovations energy storage system development efforts are also being supported by the State of Connecticut, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and the National Science Foundation.
