Girl Scouts of Connecticut has sold its location in the capital city to Hartford Hospital and will relocate its longtime headquarters.
The nonprofit sold its property at 332 Washington St. to Hartford Hospital, according to a quit claim deed dated Oct. 1.
The two-story, 10,570-square-foot building features brown shingle siding on the upper level and brick on the lower level with a peaked roof. Constructed in 1999, the property was last appraised by the city at $1.08 million.
Hartford Hospital is owned by Hartford HealthCare, which
has been expanding its presence in the area. The healthcare system did not say how it plans to use the property.
Girl Scouts of Connecticut will vacate the property by Nov. 30, with proceeds from the sale being reinvested in a new location, according to the group’s announcement.
“This sale supports our long-term sustainability and allows us to find a new location that better meets today’s needs for membership, retail sales and staff operations,” the organization said.
Girl Scouts of Connecticut said it is in “the final stages of due diligence” on a new location in Hartford County.
The Hartford facility had seen less use since the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization said.
Girl Scouts of Connecticut serves more than 16,000 youth members and 9,000 adult members across the state through 88 volunteer-managed service units. It recently reorganized into five regional communities as part of a new operational framework.
According to its 990 tax form for fiscal year 2024, ending Sept. 30 2024, Girl Scouts of Connecticut reported $10.4 million in revenue and a margin of $56,018.
During the transition, Hartford-based staff will temporarily relocate to the council's North Haven office at 20 Washington Ave., which now serves as its official corporate address.
The Hartford retail store will close Nov. 14. The organization will continue operating retail locations in North Haven, Lebanon and Wilton, in addition to its online store.
Girl Scouts of Connecticut is hosting a farewell event at the Hartford location Nov. 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., where the CEO will share reflections on the building's history and discuss future plans.
