Elliot A. Ginsberg, who led the East Hartford-based Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology for 11 years before retiring in 2018, has died.
Ginsberg, 73, died May 12 at home, according to his obituary, which requests donations to the ALS Association’s Connecticut chapter.
He was U.S. Rep. John Larson’s chief of staff for a decade, and had previously held numerous positions in state government and law.
He worked as a lobbyist at the state Capitol, and, during the administration of Gov. William A. O’Neill, served as commissioner of the state department of human resources, a predecessor to what is now the Department of Social Services.
He was also a family support magistrate in the state court system. Ginsberg began his career as a legal aid attorney.
In a statement Wednesday, Larson called Ginsberg a longtime friend who “epitomized the nobility of public service” through his service as a medic in the Army Reserves, as a legal aid attorney and in state and federal government.
“He made our community, our state, and our nation a better place,” Larson said. “He was more than a Chief of Staff and a friend. He was a brother who cared for my family like it was his own. Our hearts go out to his wife Lorie, forever by his side through this dreaded disease, his son Matthew, and all of his beloved friends and family.”
