New Haven’s Gateway Community College cut the ribbon last week on a new counseling center funded in part by a $250,000 gift.
The new center will take the name of the Amour Propre Fund, Inc., a private charity headquartered in New Haven, and its president, civic leader LindyLee Gold.

Gold, a longtime GCC Foundation Board member and one of its former chairs, also holds the posts of senior specialist and ambassador to the Greater New Haven Region for the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.
“I truly believe public education is the key to breaking the cycle of systemic poverty, not only for the person who benefits from that education, but also for generations to come,” Gold said.
The new Amour Propre Foundation/LindyLee Gold Counseling & Wellness Center at the Gateway New Haven campus will provide services including participation in the Family Economic Security Program, which provides students with academic, career, financial and personal support.
Gateway CEO William Brown said, :This gift is really an investment that will help us do what we do best at Gateway: keep our students at the center of all we do and support them in accomplishing their goals.”
