German manufacturer opens innovation center in Wallingford

German chemicals manufacturer Roehm has opened an innovation center near its production facility in Wallingford.

The Roehm Innovation Center, at 101 North Plains Industrial Road, has a modern materials development laboratory featuring advanced processing capabilities, the company said.

The 15,000-square-foot facility includes a lab with temperature and humidity control, ideal for plastic processing and formulation, according to the company.

At the site, researchers are developing new molding compounds for the medical, automotive and lighting industries, the company said.

“Improved technical resources provide our team with the tools needed for advanced product development with our customers,” said Thomas Spagnuolo, vice president and general manager of molding compounds at Roehm America.

The facility also features a visitors’ center, showcasing Roehm’s history, an internal/external training facility and a customer service hub.

Roehm said it’s growing in the Americas region, with two significant investments last year: a newly constructed headquarters in Parsippany, New Jersey, and a methyl methacrylate plant in Bay City, Texas.

The company, whose best-known product is ACRYLITE, a type of acrylic sheet, has 3,500 employees and 13 production sites worldwide.
