Gerber Scientific Inc. in South Windsor posted a smaller fiscal third-quarter loss partly on stronger sales as the prior-year period was weighed down by a write-down.
The company, which makes equipment used manufacture signs, specialty graphics, apparel and optical lenses, lost $809,000, or 3 cents per share, for the period ended Jan. 31. That compares with a loss of $2.2 million, or 9 cents per share, a year ago.
The prior-year period’s results included a $2.3 million write-down of investments in the company’s supplemental retirement plan.
Revenue climbed 4 percent to $110.7 million from $106.2 million on strong product sales and favorable foreign currency exchange rates.
Gerber Scientific said its European markets are stable and business is picking up slowly in its U.S. markets. The company also said it is seeing “solid improvement” in Asia. (AP)
