South Windsor precision-machinery maker Gerber Scientific Inc. said it bought a New York developer of software used in the retail fashion industry.
Gerber’s machinery catalog includes automated cutters for precisely carving patterns from clothing fabric.
Gerber didn’t disclose what it paid for Yunique Solutions Inc., a privately-held developer of product lifecycle management software. But Gerber said it expects Yunique to contribute to earnings, starting in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Gerber CEO Marc Giles said Yunique will solidify Gerber’s lead in the $200 million global apparel-retail market for product life management software.
Such tools enable businesses to track products from their initial concept through design, manufacture, marketing and so on.
“Product development and product lifecycle management are core to our customers’ success,” Giles said.
