Gen. Dempsey to keynote UConn Leadership Conference

Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, will deliver the keynote address at the second annual Geno Auriemma UConn Leadership Conference later this year, the school announced.

The Oct. 22-23 conference is aimed at helping business leaders share and learn best practices.

Lucy Gilson, a professor in the UConn School of Business, which is cohosting the event, said in a statement that business leaders often look to the military for inspiration.

“Both have missions, finite resources, need to be prepared for unexpected changes, look to retain and promote their best and brightest, and therefore it is not surprising that throughout history business leaders have looked to the military for wisdom and inspiration,” Gilson said.

The two-day conference is named for UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma, who has won nine national titles in his 29 seasons at UConn. Auriemma is also scheduled to deliver an address during the conference.

Proceeds from the event will go to the UConn Foundation and benefit leadership education programs at the UConn School of Business.
