Fairfield conglomerate General Electric on Wednesday contracted with developer Invenergy to supply solar equipment to the largest photovoltaic project in the Midwest.
The 23-megawatt Grand Ridge Solar project in Illinois will use GE’s thin film solar panels, inverters, transformers and control system when it comes online later this year. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Invenergy has contracted for GE products previously for its Grand Ridge Wind project, also in Illinois. That project uses 140 of GE’s 1.5-megawatt wind turbines.
Also, on Wednesday, GE launched a new power conversion business, hoping to build a larger presence in the $30 billion industrial automation sector. The new power conversion integrates GE’s previously acquired Converteam for $3.2 billion in September.
