GE to study putting solar onto power grid

With the help of a $3.3 million federal energy grant, General Electric Co. is teaming with Arizona’s biggest electric utility to figure out how to incorporate large amounts of solar power into the power grid.

A research team from GE and Arizona Public Service will conduct the first-of-its-kind study in Flagstaff, Ariz.

They will identify methods and technologies to optimize grid reliability and efficiency with the high concentration of distributed solar generation.

The grant is from the U.S. Energy Department.
