GE to sell wall-mounted car charging station

Fairfield conglomerate General Electric will begin selling in August a new electric vehicle charging station, a wall-mounted device designed for faster charges.

The WattStation Wall Mount, developed by the conglomerate’s Plainville charging station facility, charges an electric vehicle batter in less than 8 hours, as opposed to a standard electrical outlet that can take up to 18 hours.

The company plans to market the new charging station to vehicle owners, fleet managers, home builders, parking lot owners and municipalities. A flexible cord wraps around the unit to keep it off the ground.

Another Connecticut company – Enfield-based Control Module Industries – also has developed an electric vehicle charging station that keeps the cord off the ground. Its charging stations are overhead and use retractable cables.
